Biography:
There’s not much this work horse back rower hasn’t achieved in his career. Yet Craig Fitzgibbon continues to turn up week in and week out delivering sterling performances for his Sydney Roosters and it has made him one of the most valuable players in the NRL.

Since making his debut in 1998 for the Illawarra Steelers as a 22 year old, Fitzgibbon has been a regular in the top division. After scoring a sensational 84 points in his debut season, the goal kicking second rower’s club merged with the St George Dragons to be called the St. George Illawarra Dragons. The new club saw immediate success with the joint-venture reaching the 1999 Grand Final. Craig kicked a goal and scored a try as a stand out in a losing team.

The new millennium saw Fitzgibbon embark a new career challenge with a move to the Sydney Roosters. As a versatile forward, Fitzgibbon had no problems fitting into the back-row at his new club. The year 2001 also heralded the launch of Fitzgibbon’s first grade rep career, when he was selected in the Country Origin squad, a position he would find himself in again over the following years.

After tremendous form for the Country Origin team in 2001, a long awaited NSW Blues jersey was his. This was an opportunity he grasped with both hands and he has now become a familiar face in the sky blue jersey with regular series appearances for his state to date.

Craig reached the epitome of Rugby League in the 2002 season when he earned the opportunity to represent Australia. In the same season, the Roosters played the New Zealand Warriors in the Grand Final, in what he describes as his greatest football moment - the Roosters won the game and Fitzgibbon was presented with the Clive Churchill medal.

In 2008 Craig notched up his 200th first grade game for the Roosters in round 21 against the Cowboys. He finished the year in style, representing Australia at the Rugby League World Cup.

Fitzy said farewell to the Roosters at the end of the 2009 season due to his decision to take his rugby league career offshore to play for Hull FC in 2010.
